Short answer
The burial portion is often short, but transport, weather, accessibility and the transition from service to cemetery can create avoidable stress.
Before leaving the service
- Confirm who is driving the closest family.
- Give clear directions or a convoy plan.
- Check accessibility for anyone with limited mobility.
- Bring weather protection, water and any medication the family may need.
At the cemetery
Know who is leading the committal, whether chairs and a canopy are provided, whether flowers or soil will be offered, and what happens immediately afterward.
Afterward
Tell people clearly whether there is a reception and where it is. One person should stay behind long enough to collect personal items without making the family do it.
