Memory without chaos

How do we make a funeral photo slideshow without spending all night sorting pictures?

Keep it short enough that people remain present, choose a simple story rather than every photograph, and put one person in charge of files and playback.

A manageable starting point

A 5 to 10 minute slideshow is often enough to create a meaningful visual remembrance without taking over the service. The right length depends on where it will be shown and what the family wants.

A five-folder method

  1. Early life. Childhood, parents, siblings, school and early milestones.
  2. People. Partner, children, grandchildren, friends and community.
  3. Work and interests. The things that occupied and delighted them.
  4. Ordinary life. Meals, holidays, pets, gardens, laughter and everyday moments.
  5. Closing images. A few photographs that feel peaceful, characteristic or especially loved.

Before the service

Do not make perfection another burden. A simple sequence of loved photographs can be more moving than an elaborate production.
