What to Wear to a Funeral and Other Etiquette Questions
Respectful, clean, subdued clothing is usually more important than a rigid color rule. Follow any wishes stated by the family or faith community.

Clothing
In many US settings, dark or neutral clothing is common but black is not universally required. Avoid clothing that is likely to distract unless the family specifically asked for bright colors, sports colors or another tribute.
Arrival
Arrive early enough to park, find the room and be seated without creating a last-minute interruption. If you arrive late, follow the venue staff rather than walking directly toward the family.
What to say
Simple is enough: “I am so sorry,” “I loved hearing her stories,” or “I am glad I could be here.” You do not need to explain why the death happened or find a lesson in it.
Phones and photos
Silence phones. Do not photograph the coffin, grieving family or private moments unless the family or organizer has clearly invited photography.
