Kind boundaries

How do we welcome people after the baby arrives without becoming hosts?

The family is allowed to choose what makes recovery and adjustment easier. A clear message before visits can prevent awkward conversations at the door.

General health and practical information, not medical care. If you are worried about symptoms, recovery or a baby’s health, contact a qualified health professional. In the US, call 911 for an emergency and call/text 988 for suicide or mental-health crisis support. How we handle health-sensitive guidance.

Please text first

We are excited for you to meet the baby. Please text before coming rather than dropping in, because feeding, sleep and recovery are still unpredictable. If we do not reply straight away, we are probably resting.

Short visits for now

We would love a short visit. We are keeping visits fairly brief for the first little while so everyone can rest and settle in. Thank you for understanding.

Practical help is especially welcome

If you would like to help, a meal, grocery run or small practical job would be wonderful. Please do not feel you need to bring anything for the baby.

If someone is unwell

We are asking everyone to postpone visiting if they are unwell or think they may be coming down with something. We will be very happy to see you another time.

Visits should reduce work, not create it. People who love the family can refill a water bottle, wash a few dishes, bring food or leave at the right time.
