After the service
Plan a baptism reception that does not overshadow the reason for the day.
A reception can be as simple as coffee and cake or a family meal. Decide what the parents can realistically carry, then build the gathering around the church schedule and the child's needs.
Choose the level first
Coffee & cake
Lowest workload. Good when the service already takes place around midday or the family needs a short gathering.
Light lunch
Sandwiches, salads, fruit and cake can feed a larger group without needing a formal meal.
Family meal
Works well for a smaller guest list or restaurant booking where setup and cleanup are handled for you.
Community meal
Useful where family, church or friends naturally share dishes and practical jobs. Use a coordinator so the menu does not become six desserts and no drinks.

Protect the parents from hosting every detail
- Ask one person to handle food arrivals.
- Ask one person to take the key family photographs.
- Put gifts/cards in one safe place.
- Have someone else watch the clock if the venue has an end time.
- Let parents leave when the child needs to leave.
