Short answer

A boundary is not a punishment. It is a clear statement of what the person or household can and cannot manage right now.

Use short sentences

“We are not making that decision today.” “We are keeping the guest list small.” “We are not ready for visitors this week.” “We have chosen cremation and are not reopening that decision.”

Do not over-explain

Long explanations often create more points for another person to argue with. A respectful decision can still be brief.

Choose a spokesperson
